The Blurb:

A THRILLER IN THREE PARTS

The FINAL installment in this direct to digital short-story. A race-against-time three-part adventure from the bestselling author of Relentless, Siege and Ultimatum, Simon Kernick.

Ex-soldier Scope has less than 12 hours to find his kidnapped nephew and he's only got one lead to go on.

The clock's ticking and, as Scope gets to work, he soon discovers he's up against a vicious and dangerous criminal network, and he's going to need all his determination and ingenuity just to stay alive.

My Review:

So, the third and final part of the Dead Man's Gift trilogy is out. I really enjoyed the first two installments and as soon as midnight hit I was there downloading this last one. I was about to say that luckily it wasn't long so I didn't lose much sleep in order to finish it, but in fact I would have liked even more.

I don't want to say too much as I don't want to give away what happens, and given that it is only 48 pages long, if I say lots I will give the story and conclusion away. It kicks in right in the heart of the action and before you know it it's all over.

He only disappointment for me was the ending. I would have liked to have known what happens to the characters, particularly Scope. In some ways this short story feels like an introduction to characters for Simon's next book. I like things to be neat and tidy when a book ends and I didn't get the feeling with this. It felt slightly abrupt.

However it is a good introduction to the writing of Simon Kernick and I will be reading more of his stuff in the near future.
